MANCHESTER’S BUY ART FAIR ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL INTEREST

Manchester’s new art exhibition, Buy Art Fair, which is set to take place at Urbis from 9-12th October, has signed galleries from around the UK and Europe.

Barcelona gallery, Villa Del Arte, has recently joined the line up, alongside established Manchester galleries such as Comme Ca - which also boasts an office in New York - and Didsbury-based gallery, Wendy J Levy.

Spanning all areas of the art arena, from modern and contemporary to classic and fine art, Buy Art Fair will showcase the work of hundreds of artists with appeal to both novice and experienced collectors.

Books Illustrated, a highly acclaimed company specialising in the original artwork of book illustrators, has also chosen Buy Art Fair to display its artists’ work. Marking the centenary of children’s favourite, The Wind In The Willows, Books Illustrated will showcase a unique selection of the acclaimed artwork at the event, all of which will be available to purchase.

Providing a modern and alternative addition to the exhibition will be Upper Space Gallery. The recently launched gallery specialises in promoting the work of street artists at a local, national and international level, demonstrating the diversity of art.

Galleries exhibiting at Buy Art Fair will showcase the work of hundreds of artists including Susan Brown, Andrew George Magee, Liam Spencer, Paul Kidby, Hammo and Little Artists all showing a wide variety of original art.

Included within the Buy Art Fair programme will be a series of talks with advice on buying and investing in art, learning more about different styles from street art to photography and a chance to hear direct from the artists themselves. All of this is aimed to encourage people to grow in confidence when buying art.

Around 7,000 art buyers are expected to attend the event, which will take place over four floors at Urbis.

Adult tickets start from £5.50. Visit www.buyartfair.co.uk to keep updated on the latest news and exhibitors.

About Urbis

Urbis, designed by Ian Simpson Architects, is in many ways an architectural expression of its content - the experience of the modern city. Set in Cathedral Gardens, a new green space in Manchester's Millennium Quarter, Urbis is one of the city's few island buildings.

Whichever way you approach it, Urbis is visually striking; its shimmering glass skin reflecting the surrounding cityscape. Like the city itself, Urbis invites visitors to stroll around and see the sights.

The whole building is contained within a glass skin that comprises 2,200 glazed units, each one individually fashioned to form the sculptured surface of the building. Much of the glazing is semi-obscured, allowing a variety of views both into and out of the building.
