Moira
Metcalfe is a well established artist living and working
in the bustling market town of Hawes in the Yorkshire
Dales. Born in 1953, she used to visit the Dales as
a child and was inspired by the dramatic landscape around her.
Her work explores landscapes of constantly
changing moods and climates with an enormity of light and movement,
producing unique and personal responses to the influences of
her surroundings. Moira explains,
"Wherever I am,
I find myself picturing everything I see as potential paintings.
I mentally cut a section of landscape in front of me and visualise
it on a canvas." |

| The
'Rapid' and 'Wave' Series marked a transition for Moira into
a perfect balance between skilful representation and the realm
of imaginative abstraction. She tackles the challenge with great
maturity, decontextualizing the subject matter and illustrating
her skills in the manipulation of oil on canvas. As Moira describes
it, "I like to work without rigidly controlling the progress
of a piece, surrendering myself to the medium and the resources
of my imagination."
Moira has been painting
full time for over 30 years, and her impressive oil paintings
range from £500 to £5000. Her work has been exhibited
in London and is in collections worldwide. |
